A firsthand review of my late-May 2026 Celebrity Edge Alaska cruise, including honest pros and cons, excursion ratings, glacier views, dining experiences, and travel tips for anyone considering this itinerary.
An Alaska cruise is one of those trips that feels different from the moment it begins. It is not just a vacation; it is scenery, wildlife, weather, water, ice, and quiet moments that make you stop and look a little longer.
In the last week of May 2026, I sailed on an 8-day Celebrity Edge cruise out of Seattle, Washington. The itinerary included Ketchikan, Dawes Glacier, Juneau, Skagway, and British Columbia, Canada. It was a beautiful route filled with glaciers, waterfalls, seals, eagles, whales, mountain views, and a few surprises along the way.

This review is based on my personal experience aboard Celebrity Edge. Overall, Alaska was breathtaking, the excursions were mostly excellent, and the ship had some thoughtful touches that worked especially well for this itinerary. However, there were also service and layout issues that are worth knowing before you book.
Starting in Seattle: Pike Place Market Flowers Before Boarding
Before boarding Celebrity Edge, I visited Pike Place Market in Seattle. If you have extra time before your cruise, this is a wonderful place to begin the trip. Pike Place has that classic Seattle energy — flowers, food, local vendors, seafood, coffee, and a fun pre-cruise atmosphere.
One of my favorite small moments of the trip happened before I even stepped onto the ship: I purchased fresh flowers at Pike Place Market and brought them onboard.
Celebrity allowed fresh flowers on the ship, which was a lovely surprise. Even better, the veranda stateroom had a vase available in the room. That small detail made the flowers feel less like an impulse purchase and more like a perfect cabin upgrade.
The flowers brightened the stateroom throughout the cruise and added a cheerful contrast to the cool blues, grays, and whites of Alaska’s glaciers and mountains. It was such a simple thing, but it made the room feel more personal.
Travel tip: If you are sailing out of Seattle and love flowers, consider stopping at Pike Place Market before boarding. Just check your cruise line’s current policy before sailing, but on this trip, Celebrity allowed them.
Celebrity Edge Alaska Itinerary Overview
This was an 8-day cruise out of Seattle, Washington, with stops and scenic cruising that included:
| Destination | Experience |
|---|---|
| Seattle, Washington | Embarkation port and Pike Place Market visit |
| Ketchikan, Alaska | Totem Pole and Wildlife Adventure |
| Dawes Glacier | Scenic glacier viewing from the ship |
| Juneau, Alaska | Mendenhall Glacier, whale watching, and wildlife |
| Skagway, Alaska | Dog sled park and scenic train ride |
| British Columbia, Canada | Abkhazi Gardens and High Tea |
This itinerary is a strong option for a first Alaska cruise because it offers a mix of wildlife, glaciers, small-town Alaska charm, scenic cruising, and classic excursions. The biggest highlights for me were the glacier experiences, especially Endicott Glacier and Dawes Glacier.
Dawes Glacier from the Veranda: A Peaceful Alaska Moment
One of the most memorable parts of the cruise was seeing Dawes Glacier from the veranda stateroom.
The veranda roll-down window made glacier viewing comfortable and protected from the wind. Alaska weather can change quickly, especially near glaciers, so having a private viewing space was a major benefit. Instead of fighting crowds outside or trying to find a good public viewing spot, I could enjoy the scenery right from the room.

Dawes Glacier viewed from the veranda roll-down window aboard Celebrity Edge.
This was one of those quiet cruise moments that felt almost unreal. The water was calm, the mountains rose dramatically on both sides, and small pieces of ice floated through the fjord. The sunlight over the water made the entire scene feel peaceful and cinematic.
If you are booking Alaska and debating whether a veranda is worth it, this itinerary made a strong case for having one.
Veranda Stateroom Features That Worked Well for Alaska
The veranda stateroom had several thoughtful features that were especially useful on an Alaska cruise.
First, binoculars were provided in the room. This was a great perk because Alaska is full of quick wildlife sightings. Eagles, seals, waterfalls, and shoreline views are much easier to appreciate when binoculars are within reach.
Second, umbrellas were available for use. This may sound small, but Alaska weather can shift between sunshine, rain, mist, and wind very quickly. Having an umbrella already in the room helped reduce what we needed to pack.
Third, the stateroom had a vase, which was perfect for the flowers purchased at Pike Place Market. I would not have expected that detail to matter so much, but it really did.
These practical cabin touches helped make the cruise feel better suited to Alaska.
The Thermal Suite: One of the Best Onboard Perks
One of the best onboard experiences was the Thermal Suite. For top-tier members, the Thermal Suite was free, which was a major perk.
Even better, the Thermal Suite faced outside and had natural light. On an Alaska itinerary, that is a big advantage. Some thermal suites feel enclosed or disconnected from the destination, but this one allowed you to relax while still enjoying sunshine and views.
After being outside in the cold, wind, or mist, the Thermal Suite was a wonderful place to warm up. It felt especially valuable on scenic cruising days and after excursions.
For this cruise, the Thermal Suite was one of Celebrity Edge’s strongest features.
Oceanview Buffet: A Strong Dining Option
The Oceanview buffet was one of the better food experiences onboard. It offered a wide variety of foods and felt slightly better than Royal Caribbean’s buffet based on my personal comparison.
The buffet was convenient, reliable, and especially helpful because the sit-down breakfast venues closed early. There were enough options to keep meals interesting, and it became the easiest choice when timing was tight before or after excursions.
For Alaska sailings, where excursion schedules can be early or unpredictable, a strong buffet matters.
Main Dining Rooms: Good Concept, Inconsistent Service
Celebrity Edge has four main dining rooms, and each offers the same core menu along with different special entrées. I liked this concept because it added variety while still allowing guests to access familiar menu items.
However, the service in the main dining rooms was inconsistent.
Because guests rotate between the dining rooms, there was not much waiter consistency. That meant it was harder to build a relationship with a regular waiter. I only found one waiter during the cruise who felt truly attentive.
Several times, officers had to step in and take drink orders, which was surprising. On a premium cruise line, I did not expect to see officers repeatedly handling basic service needs because wait staff were unavailable or stretched thin.
This became one of the biggest disappointments of the cruise.
Bar Service and Drink Consistency Issues
The bar experience was also uneven. There appeared to be too few waiters for some venues and sit-down bar areas, especially when more guests were indoors due to weather.
There were also consistency issues with drink orders. For example, I ordered mimosas and received the correct drink once, but another time received only champagne. This happened in two different bars, which made it feel like a broader service consistency issue rather than a one-time mistake.
It was not enough to ruin the cruise, but it was noticeable.
Ship Layout: Beautiful, But Not Always Practical for Alaska
Celebrity Edge is a beautiful ship, but some layout choices did not work perfectly for a cold-weather itinerary.
Several bar areas had limited seating, which became a problem when weather pushed more people indoors. When entertainment was happening in or near those spaces, it could be difficult to find a seat with a good view.
The main store was also located in a small area. When sales occurred, it became crowded and hard to move around. This was a minor issue, but it made shopping less enjoyable during busy times.
Another drawback was the lack of a dedicated lounge or bar for top-tier members. For frequent cruisers who value loyalty perks and dedicated spaces, this may feel like a missing feature.
Breakfast Hours: Too Limited for Sit-Down Dining
One thing I would change is the breakfast schedule. The sit-down breakfast venues closed at 9 a.m., which left only the buffet available afterward.
On vacation, especially after long port days or early mornings, not everyone wants to rush to breakfast before 9. The buffet was good, but it would have been nice to have a longer sit-down breakfast option.
This is something to keep in mind if you prefer slower mornings.
Specialty Restaurant Cleanliness Concern
I also experienced a dirty table and chair in a specialty restaurant. This was disappointing because specialty dining usually comes with higher expectations.
It was not the defining experience of the cruise, but it stood out because specialty restaurants are supposed to feel elevated. Cleanliness and presentation matter, especially when guests are paying extra.
Excursion Reviews
The excursions were a major part of this Alaska cruise, and several were excellent. The glacier and wildlife excursions were the strongest overall.
Ketchikan Totem Pole and Wildlife Adventure
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
The Ketchikan Totem Pole and Wildlife Adventure had some enjoyable elements. The tour guide provided a lot of information, and we were able to see eagles and seals.
The disappointing part was the totem pole portion. I only viewed the totems by boat, and I had expected a more up-close experience. If your main goal is wildlife, this tour may be worth considering. If your main goal is to explore totem poles in depth, you may want to review the excursion description carefully before booking.
Best for: Wildlife viewing and a relaxed boat-based tour.
Less ideal for: Travelers wanting close-up access to totem poles.
Endicott Glacier and Wildlife Tour
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
The Endicott Glacier and Wildlife Tour was one of the best experiences of the entire cruise.
The guide was excellent, the glacier viewing was incredible, and the scenery felt exactly like what I hoped an Alaska cruise would deliver. We saw seals, glaciers, eagles, waterfalls, and dramatic ice formations.

Endicott Glacier viewed during a glacier and wildlife excursion in Alaska.
Seeing the glacier from the excursion gave a closer and more powerful view than seeing glaciers only from the main ship. The blue ice, floating ice pieces, surrounding mountains, and wildlife made this a true highlight.
This excursion felt worth it and is one I would absolutely recommend.
Best for: Glacier viewing, wildlife, photography, waterfalls, and classic Alaska scenery.
Less ideal for: Travelers who prefer very short or less adventurous excursions.
Juneau: Mendenhall Glacier and Whale and Wildlife Tour
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
The Juneau excursion included Mendenhall Glacier along with whale and wildlife viewing.
The whale portion was the highlight. Seeing breaching whales and seals made this tour exciting and memorable. The wildlife experience was strong and made the excursion worthwhile.
Mendenhall Glacier itself was a little underwhelming compared with the other glacier experiences on this itinerary. It is still a well-known and popular stop, but after seeing more dramatic glacier scenery elsewhere, it did not feel as impressive.
The biggest thing to know is that this excursion may leave little or no time to sightsee in Juneau. If exploring the town, shopping, or trying local restaurants is important to you, you may want to consider your timing carefully.
Best for: Whale watching and wildlife.
Less ideal for: Travelers who also want time to explore Juneau independently.
Skagway: Dog Sled Park and Train Ride
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
The Dog Sled Park and Train Ride was a fun and memorable excursion.
You get to see how dog sledding dogs are raised, pet the dogs, meet young pups, and then take a train ride up through Canada and back. The animal portion was especially enjoyable, and the train ride added beautiful scenery and a relaxing pace.
This excursion is a nice choice for families, animal lovers, or anyone wanting a mix of hands-on experience and classic Skagway views.
Best for: Animal lovers, families, and scenic train fans.
Less ideal for: Travelers who do not enjoy longer organized tours.
British Columbia: Abkhazi Gardens and High Tea
Rating: 2 out of 5 stars
The Abkhazi Gardens and High Tea excursion included a guided garden tour and high tea.
The tour guide provided a lot of information, which was appreciated. However, the garden itself was very small, and for the price, the experience felt underwhelming.
This excursion may appeal to travelers who specifically enjoy garden history, tea service, and quiet settings. But compared with the Alaska glacier and wildlife excursions, it did not feel as strong of a value.
Best for: Tea lovers and garden-history enthusiasts.
Less ideal for: Travelers expecting a large garden or a high-impact excursion.

It is especially good for:

My Favorite Moments
The best moments of this cruise were the ones that felt uniquely Alaska.
Seeing Dawes Glacier from the veranda was peaceful and unforgettable. The Endicott Glacier excursion was the strongest tour of the trip and delivered the kind of dramatic glacier scenery I had hoped for. The whale watching in Juneau was exciting, especially seeing breaching whales. Eagles, seals, waterfalls, and floating ice made the entire trip feel wild and beautiful.
And then there were the smaller personal touches: flowers from Pike Place Market in the cabin, binoculars ready for wildlife sightings, umbrellas for unpredictable weather, and warm time in the Thermal Suite while still looking outside.
Those details helped make the trip memorable.
Final Thoughts: Would I Recommend Celebrity Edge for Alaska?
Yes, I would recommend Celebrity Edge for Alaska, but with realistic expectations.
The itinerary was beautiful, the glacier views were incredible, and several excursions were excellent. The veranda stateroom was well suited for Alaska, the Thermal Suite was a major perk, and the Oceanview buffet was a strong dining option.
However, the service did not always match the premium feel Celebrity is known for. Dining and bar service were inconsistent, wait staff seemed stretched thin, indoor seating was limited in some entertainment areas, and there were a few layout and cleanliness issues.
For me, Alaska was the true star of the trip. Celebrity Edge provided a stylish and comfortable way to see it, even if some parts of the onboard experience could have been better.
Would I cruise Alaska again? Absolutely.
Would I book glacier and wildlife excursions again? Without question.
Would I bring Pike Place Market flowers onboard again? Definitely.
This cruise had breathtaking scenery, memorable wildlife, and a few service frustrations — but when you are floating past glaciers and watching whales breach in Alaska, the magic still wins.
